I’ve wanted to visit Big Sky Country for some time now but was never able to do it until we decided to live our nomad life.  Maybe it was because I’ve seen “A River Runs Through It” so many times, or maybe it’s from my desire to learn how to fly fish…well, I think I wanted to learn how to fly fish since watching that movie so…ipso facto…Brad Pitt told me to visit Montana.

Let’s talk population.  According to census.gov, (as of writing this post) Montana has a population of 1,068,778 people or about 7 people per square mile…so yeah, there’s a lot of elbow room up here.  Compare that to California with a population of 39,512,223 or about 253 people per square mile…no wonder there is a toilet paper shortage in the golden state.

Let’s talk beauty.  Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful landscapes in every part of this country, but there is something about the expanse of land up here that makes it truly breathtaking.  It looks surreal, standing on a mountainside looking miles down into an adjacent valley; it can really leave you speechless.  Photos do not do it justice; you have to experience it for yourself.

Snow dusting the peaks of distant mountains, wildflowers blanketing the hillsides, wild animals grazing…I feel a poem is in there somewhere…not from me…but from someone who has a better grasp of the written word.

Right now I can’t think of a better place to be…to just be…nothing to do, nowhere to go, just sitting and enjoying my surroundings with my family.  This time that Michelle and I are spending with our kids is by far the best decision we could have ever made.

I love the life that we have chosen.
