We just visited the Museum of Clean for the third time and I’ll tell ya…it’s pretty fun.  Opened in 2011 by co-founder of Varsity Contractors, Don Aslett, the Museum of Clean is a 75,000 square foot sterilized trip into the history of cleanliness.

Located in Pocatello, Idaho the Museum of Clean houses multiple floors of wacky collections, interactive exhibits and fun stuff for the kids including the giant multi level globe –  “Kid Planet.”  As you meander through the museum you will stumble upon a garage filled with junk, hundreds of antique vacuums, floor sweepers of all sizes, many unique cleaning devices, a myriad of one of a kind sculptures and the one and only “Big Don,” the world’s largest janitor.

In addition you’ll find an art gallery, a replica of an old English city, a collection of toilets and a “Library of Clean” filled with the 40+ books that Don Aslett has written himself on, and related to, the subject of cleaning.

In 2018 we were fortunate enough to get a personal tour from Mr. Aslett himself.  Even in his eighties he was more than happy to guide us through the exhibits explaining the back story to the many devices that were neatly displayed all around.

What I found most interesting was his ambition.  I felt that it wasn’t just about cleaning necessarily; it was about a desire to create something, to leave a mark, to be an accomplished entrepreneur and most of all – to help others.  He was even kind enough to gift each of us with an autographed book of our choice.

Although we only spent a short time with Mr. Aslett I found him to be a true inspiration.  He showed me what can be accomplished if you are equipped with the right amount of fortitude and perseverance. As quirky as The Museum of Clean is, it is a truly remarkable place to discover.

Also a special thanks goes out to Brad, the museum’s guide/administrator, for being kind enough taking the time to give us a little bit of the back story of his time at the museum and the museums history.
